A Solo RPG Journal

This is a website dedicated to recording some of my solo gaming sessions.

Most of these games are played using D&D 5e, though lately I have been using GURPS as my rule system of choice. My familiarity with this rule set is limited and I am learning as I go.

In playing solo games, I typically use the Mythic GM Emulator as an oracle to help drive the action and answer questions, coupled with a variety of random encounter tables that I generally build as I go, or borrow from other sources.

For tactical combat, I typically set things up in Fantasy Grounds VTT.

As a world building resources, I use Worldographer for maps and often enlist the aid of Chat GPT, especially for stat blocks for newly invented creatures.

My older entries are pure character journals. After those, I started including more game mechanics as a “how to solo” demonstration. I tend to play a “daily journal” style, writing down the events and conversations of the day, playing the daily sandbox life of the characters. As such, there are often long periods of very little action as the character explores or simply tries to get by. This is certainly not the way most people seem to game, but it is what works for me.

And in solo gaming, everyone should play the way they want, as there is nobody else who is going to be disappointed.
