–I have often tried to solo an Arcane character. I just have a hard time getting them past third level. First is even a challenge…it’s kind of rough when a stirge can one-shot you!
–But here we go again. I found during KOTB that a warrior sidekick, at low levels, is no less effective than a Fighter classed hero. But the spellcaster sidekicks were horribly deficient. So I decided that my next main character will be wizard.
The Build:
–I rolled stats arranging them to suit, chose Variant Human (as usual), selecting Alert as my feat, and gaining Lucky as a bonus feat for being a solo character.

–I generated a backstory using Kassoon’s generator as my starting point:
3d6+10=Age 22
Race: Human
Birthplace: On board a boat or ship
Current Age: 21
Charisma: 14 (2)
Parents: You know of your parents.
Mother: Aless Bleher, Neutral Evil Human Druid that works as a Farmer. Your relationship was friendly. She is dead.
Father: Jorgan Bleher, Neutral Good Human Cleric that works as an Entertainer. Your relationship was friendly. He is dead.
Siblings: 3
Older sibling. Goman Bleher, Neutral Human that works as a Laborer. Your relationship was friendly. He is alive, but doing poorly due to injury / finances / relationship.
Younger sibling. Melissa Bleher, Neutral Human that works as a Merchant. Your relationship was friendly. She is alive and well.
Younger sibling. Arnard Bleher, Neutral Human that works as a Laborer. Your relationship was friendly. He is alive and well.
Family: You were raised by your mother and father.
Lifestyle: Poor. Grew up in a rundown shack
Childhood: You had several friends, and your childhood was generally a happy one.
Life
Background: Sailor (Pearl Diver)
Motivation: Living on the coast, there were few other opportunities for an impoverished girl to make an honest living.
Class: Wizard
Origin: An old wizard chose you from among several candidates to serve an apprenticeship.
I spent a week living as a frog.
My home was ransacked by xxxx.
–Then I used the Universal NPC Emulator to generate my character’s motivations, and used that information to come up with traits, ideals, flaws, etc.
Motivations: Collaborate Happiness, Repress Affluence, Possess Communications
–Traits–
Traits: Quiet but friendly. Continuously writing in her journal or reading.
Ideals. Everyone has a story to tell, one can learn from those stories.
Bonds. Devoted to her friends
Flaws. Values books and lore over most any wealth.
Appearance. Tall, slender, attractive fair skinned woman with brown hair that drapes down to the middle of her back, but which is usually worn up in a bun, out of the way.
–Completed Backstory–
Mendy is happiest in the company of friends and other people. She lives modestly, having grown up poor, she finds displays of wealth distasteful. She cherishes letters from friends and loved ones, and well, any sort of journal she might find that sheds light on another person’s view of the world.
She was born on her father’s dilapidated fishing boat, but grew up in a beachside shack. She learned to swim at a young age, diving for pearls (never finding anything really valuable), mending nets, and scalling fish. Life was simple, and pleasant, though food might sometimes be scarce. Everything changed when the village was wiped out by Sahuagin.
Like many others, Mendy and her siblings were orphaned. Mendy was adoped by the Wizard of the Light Tower, for reasons he has never fully explained. He brought her to the tower to use as a maid, but also taught her to read and on finding her an astute pupil, began teaching her the ways of magic.
When he heard her contemplating using her growing skill to seek vengeange against the Sahaugin, he turned her into a frog to learn how hard it is to live as a predator, while also being the prey. How hard it is to hunt beneath the water, when one is also bound to the land. She still isn’t fully certain she understood the nuances of the lesson, but she knows better than to seek revenge againt the sea devils.
–Then I make a token for my character using Token Stamp and RollAdvantage, since I use a Virtual Table Top for my solo games.
